WJR lays off anchors Barbera and Clark
News/Talk WJR-AM (760) laid off on-air news anchors Donna Barbera and Dayna Clark as part of a stationwide round of cuts, sources familiar with the situation said Friday.
The layoffs come in the wake of WJR’s parent company Cumulus Media Inc.’s $2.5 billion buyout of Citadel Broadcasting in September. WJR was previously owned by Citadel.
Atlanta-based Cumulus owns more than 500 stations across the country, representing eight of the top 10 markets. The merger has led to layoffs at stations throughout the country, according to news reports.
It was unclear how many layoffs were occurring at WJR, said the sources, who requested anonymity because they did not have permission to comment. Calls to WJR management were not returned Friday.
